London Luton Airport has become the first airport in the world to introduce holographic announcers. The project is part of a series of initiatives aimed at simplifying the security process at the airport. Custom designed for London Luton Airport, the holograms, in both male and female versions, are technically referred to as tensator virtual assistants.
This adds a more engaging way to deliver a message normally handled with a static sign. Having virtual people deliver it makes it more memorable and accessible. However, this could easily go too far - where roles currently handled by people become a recorded video message. For example, how would you respond to the customer support desk being replaced with a series of canned video responses. It will be interesting to see where else this technology can be used over the coming years.
